I suppose some of you who have been following this blog for some time and who aren't interested in dinosaurs probably find these posts excruciating. Sorry, guys; there will be plenty more urban sketching posts, including some very soon. Meanwhile, I've been spending the last three months or so re-learning how to draw dinosaurs, and rediscovering the world of dinosaurs-- the research, the art, and the fans, thanks to the dinosaur blogosphere. Why do I say "rediscovering?" Because, about 17 years ago, I was nuts about dinosaurs. Just completely bonkers. This post is about how that all started and ended, and started again. As a pre-teen, I was certainly a fan of dinosaurs, but I was never the kind of serious devotee that many of my friends were at that age. This is great! Done during a lunchtime break you say? Wow! Excellent!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteNice quick sketch, Paul. I especially like your self-portraits on the previous post, btw.
ReplyDeleteSimply astonished! Great work!
ReplyDeleteDuring your lunchbreak? Wow! So this didn't take you long at all. Really like detail you found in the cars and your hatch work is a class act. Tell me, since you primarily use pen and ink for your drawings and sketches, how do you correct errors?
ReplyDeleteHey Joe. Thanks again! The short answer is I don't correct errors. I just live with them. Since I don't have time to sketch in pencil beforehand I've gotten used to making decisions quickly and making confident marks without a lot of deliberation. But seemingly for every sketch that works there's ten that fail...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reality check. That at least gives me some hope. I'm getting back into drawing. I began shooting street photography prior to trying to draw it because it just took too long. But now I plan to draw/sketch some of it via the photos I've already taken. You've given me a viable option. LOL. Again your work reeks of brilliance. Hats off to you.
